I think this book is so meaningful and shows how to be kind to others. I could not put this book down. Robert was born with two different sized legs, his eyes were on the side of his head, and he had a tumor the size of a tennis ball on his nose. He is kept at home until he is 5, and then starts going to school. No one makes fun of him. But in later years kids start calling him names, like toe nose, because doctors who worked on him had to use part of his toe in his nose. He has some friends, but always has wanted to play sports. One day he plays a game called lawn bowls, and falls in love with it. He makes friends with his elderly teammate, Frank and they win lots of games together. One day, he goes to a different school to help little kids. When they are done, he is called back into the office. He is told by the principal that they should have been warned about how ugly he was. That is when Robert finds out that not only kids can be mean, adults can too.If you were as different as Robert, how would you feel? If you were a kid that went to Robert´s school, would you be friends with him, or call him names like all of the other students. The moral of the story... if you look different, accept it, and be confident in who you are, because there is always someone looking for a friend.

This book is about Ben Ripley who is a student at spy school. He is friends with Erica Hale, who is in the Hale legacy, leading back to Nathan Hale himself. One day in self preservation, he accidentally fires a live cannon round into the principals office. He is sent back to his old school, where he is recruited by evil organization SPYDER. He is sent to spy school, and finds out that Erica put the live round in to get hi sent to spy school, and he is actually on a secret unauthorized mission. He breaks out of Evil Spy School, and he then finds out that SPYDER is trying too shoot missiles into 10 NYC bridges. They then thwart SPYDER´s plans, and Ben is rewarded by being readmitted into spy school.

Have you ever felt different or worried about the way you look? If so you would understand what Robert Hoge the main character in the book Ugly a story by Robert Hoge feels like and goes through everyday. The book Ugly takes place in Australia in the year 1986. Robert Hoge was born with a squashed nose, his eyes were on the side of his head, and his legs were different sizes. The first conflict is that because of Roberts disability he can’t play the sports that he wants to. The second conflict is that because of how Robert looks the other kids at his school make fun of him and call him really mean nicknames that hurt his feelings. The protagonist is Robert because he overcoming his disability and trying to be like the other kids at his school. The antagonist is Roberts disability because his disability stops him from playing sports and riding a bike that he really wants to do. The turning point is at the end when Robert finally finds a sport that makes Robert feel like he is finally a part of a team which was his lifelong dream. I recommend this book for fifth graders and up. What would you do if you felt different or worried about the way you looked?
