The Vault of Shadows, the second book of The Nightsiders series, takes place a little after Milo and his friends steal the Heart of Darkness (the only gateway left for the Nightsiders, creatures of mystery and fantasy trying to get back home). However, the alien bugs are brooding and it's up to Milo and his friend are set in for an adventure. The reason I connected to this book is because of it's cool end of the world apocalypse theme. The pacing is wonderful, the character dynamics are great and the story and plot itself if breathtaking, that's why this review is 5 stars. So I would absolutely recommend this book to you after you read the first one (don't make the mistake that I did. I learned that lesson the hard way).Over 4 years agosophia_g has read this book.

Tales from the Odyssey (part two) Is the continuation of the first part of Tales from the Odyssey. As Odysseus continues his journey, his wife(Penelope) and son(Telemachus) long for his return to home as power-hungry suitors is looking for Penelope's hand in marriage. One day Telemachus has had enough and decides two set out on an adventure to look for his missing father. Unknowing to him, there will be more adventure than he thinks. I connected to this book due to my love of Greek myths and tales, as there's always some type of adventure just waiting to be read. I read the first part deciding it would be a good idea, and I was right! The book's way of storytelling is great and as someone who enjoys these kind of books, I can tell you that it was worth the time to read (after you read the first part). Overall, a great book with a great story 5/5 stars.Over 4 years agosophia_g has read this book.

Stanley Yelnats has been convicted of a crime he didn't even commit. Because of this, he's been sent to Camp Green Lake, a camp that is supposed to build character and bring boys back to society. When Stanley gets there, he makes some friends and finds out that the Warden is making the boys dig holes not to build character, but to find a legendary secret treasure, that his great-great-grandfather supposedly had something to do with. Will he ever find the treasure? Will he ever get his crime justified and escape Camp Green Lake? Read Holes by Louis Sachar to find out. I connected to this book because Stanley takes the blame for things he didn't do, and I have done that before. I give this book 4 stars because the story plot was good, but the cutting back and forth to the past and present was confusing, and the resolution was predictable in some parts.Over 4 years agoabi_k_12 added a book review.

Tales from the Odyssey (part one) is a retell of Homer's Odyssey where you follow Odysseus and his adventures after some soldiers disrespected the temple of Athena during the battle in Troy. Odysseus' men have disrespected the gods and have now punished them. Now, Odysseus is battling his life just to get home to Ithaca alive. I connected with the book from my love of Greek tales and myths (or any kind tales and myths from and country, really. Greek myths just fascinate me the most ). The connection I made with this book is Odysseus' determination to survive and return home (and if I'm being honest, many kids in school just wants to survive class and go home, myself included (no I'm not failing classes, I'm just tired, that's all)). The reason this is a five star review is because I love Greek myths like this and the storytelling was great for me.Over 4 years agosophia_g has read this book.

Carter and Sadie Kane haven't been the same since their mother's death. Carter travels the world with their dad Julius Kane, and Sadie lives in London with her grandparents. Everything changes when Julius takes them to a museum on their one of two days annual meet. He sets free the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him and forces the siblings to run. After, they find out that the world of Egyptian gods are awakening, and the worst of them, Set is after them and domination of the rest of the world. Carter and Sadie must go on an epic quest to stop him, but also find out many secrets about them and their family. I connected to this book because I related how it was to see a distant family member after some years. I give this book 5 stars because the story plot is tremendous, and the timeline and the character traits all fit in well together.Over 4 years ago
